Why save the TSS Calshot?
Built by Vosper. We need to keep this fine part of Southampton history, and let newer generations enjoy what I did and learn it's history. Never forget the past.

The Calshot is a highly important part of both Southampton’s and Britains maritime history - it deserves to be preserved and safeguarded future generations.
While ABP should be congratulated for investing in the port of Southampton that will undoubtedly help the local economy, an investment by the company to aid in the preservation of the Calshot would show a solid foundation of their social policy.
Stephen Lacey
A very special reason. My late brother was skipper on her back in the day.
Sheila Betteridge
I came to know the Caslhot in the 80s in Galway when she served as a ferry for the Aran Islands, named Galway Bay. A beautifull ship! and the I visited some years later in Southampton and had a look at all the work the trust did... SAVE THIS SHIP! It is the last of its kind, it is history!
Peter Emmerich
We are running out of significant historic ships and this one deserves saving.
Nicholas Messinger
Born and bred in Southampton and this is a part of my heritage that needs to be preserved.
Ceri Brabham

Save this vessel as a reminder of the ocean going past of Southampton, in Southampton.
Bob van Leeuwen
This is an important piece of history that need to saved.
Let's make this happen.
Ian wilson
As an ex- Vosper Thornycroft employee, and having seen Southampton’s maritime heritage all but destroyed, it would be a tragedy to lose another piece of our history.
Christopher Semple
She’s too iconic for Southampton to lose
John Gibbard
As an ex Red Funnel Deck Boy, and having recently been on Calshot, she is a time capsule and must be saved.
Leslie Prentice
Great memories of Calshot as a child when we holidayed on the Isle of Wight.
Hope she can be saved!
Stuart Somers
We must save this ship it is part of Southampton’s heritage so important.
Paul Adams
I work on the SS Nomadic a similar tender (also Titanics tender) so with the TT Calshots history and especially her war service, so relevant at the moment of course, it's very important that she be saved.
We owe her that!
Elizabeth Rusk
This should be saved as a vital historic reminder of shipping contribution to the war effort.

Please save this historic ship - a D-Day veteran.
For a nation of mariners and the best shipbuilders providing ships all over the world we have lost too many examples of our once world leading craft from the last century.
Matt Cain
We must not loose this vital part of our city and history.
Elaine Adams
This is part of Southamptons heritage, and the only link to the old liners, it must be saved.
Nigel Whale
I went on this in the 1980s to the Aran Islands off the Irish coast. Its an important part of Southampton Heritage. If it was building it would have a preservation order.
Dave Perkes
Southampton needs to wake up to tourist opportunities like Portsmouth
Chris Griffith-Jones
Save this ship, we should do far more for our maritime history.
Nigel Roberts
Damn shame if this wonderful piece of Southampton Heritage is sent to the scrap yard!
Rob Reed
Let’s not lose something else of Southampton’s history.
It’s time to sell this city to visitors.
Lynne Horsburgh
A highly historic vessel that should be relocated and re-purposed for the public to enjoy.
Scrapping it would be a crime to our steamship heritage.
Thomas Southall
This is our history.
As important to Southampton as the Bargate or Holyrood.
Ellie Norden
Please save this beautiful maritime memory.
Perrin
Please save this historic vessel, too many things of importance are lost in this country, will be so sad if no one steps forward to save this.
If ABP and Southampton City Council can't get together to do this then who seriously can. So much history in Southampton be it maritime or aviation, cannot afford to loose this history.
Mike Scott
It’s imperative that we keep this magnificent part of our city heritage.
Helen Jones-Witt
Amazing history, we sell all our heritage let's not loose her too.
Chris Flanagan
Criminal if this significant piece of history is lost!
Patrick Crosley
An iconic piece of maritime history must be preserved.
Once gone, will never return.
Now we have this chance we must take it.
Lee Hunt
I remember this tug from my childhood. I think she should be saved and restored, as she's part of Southampton, where I was born.
Karen Eaton
This is a wonderful piece of heritage and is unique, saving it would boost Southampton image and send out a message that we do value our seafaring history, and the memory of all those brave souls who sailed into the unknown to rescue our soldiers from the beaches in France. We cannot let this opportunity slip away and Calshot should be saved as a lasting memory for all to enjoy.
William Smith
This is heritage at it's best.
Eileen Bourne
My late husband, Tony Coslett-Derby, was Towage Manager at Red Funnel, and Calshott was the premier tug of the fleet. A superb boat.
Sheila Baynes
This vessel is historic and worthy of funding to get it to a point where it can help fund itself similar to the Shieldhall.
Graham Harris
We need to save this tug in honour of those who gave us our future.
Roy Richards
We have little in the way of old floating stock left from this era. Life is not just about finances. It's memories for us all, now and for the future generation.
Nick Pagett
We've lost too many of our historic ships, especially in the past few years to the scrap man. This would be great to be saved and used as a museum tender, taking passengers out on it and informing them of it's history whilst they are on it.
Sally-Ann Bowen
Please save this vessel. My dad was a tug man on this tug for many years, Ken Robinson. I also shared moments on board when I was young.
Jackie Cherry
We must save these past hero’s for future generations.
James Batney
It`s a shame she cant be made sea worthy.
It would be a nice addition to the historic fleet.
Paul Garwin
Get this old girl saved from the cutters torch.
Kenneth Graham
As both a former Southampton resident and Thornycroft employee I implore you to preserve our heritage and save the "TTCalshot"
Brian Smith
My father sailed on her on her maiden voyage from Thorneycrofts where he was a carpenter & joiner.
Marian Rashleigh
Will somebody please save the Calshot.
David Doxey
She is the last tangible part of the port's great history.
Without the port Southampton would be just a little market town up a creek on the south coast. Will history forgive her scrapping?
Peter Sedgley
This is what made Southampton great.
We lost the 'Queens', don't lose everything!
Kevin Bosanquet
'Calshot' has been a part of Southampton's maritime history for 90 years and needs to be saved and treasured.
Graham Tibble
My Grandad Fredrick McCarthy sailed this ship.
It’s such a shame to loose all that history it’s should be honoured.
You guy keep that wet plank of wood called the Mary Rose. Why shouldn’t this boat that harbours a generation of stories, be sent to the scrap heap?
Sarah Desario
A fitting memorial to Vospers. Moor it at Woolston.
Christopher Fawdon
My late grandad used to sail this tug! Lots of memories. Save it!
Kerri
This tug tender is vital to the story of Southampton and the Great Liners, more than any other steamer existing.
Anonymous
This tug is a part of the ports history and should be preserved.
Once something like this is lost it cannot be replaced. I appreciate that money is always going to be a problem with so many good causes but it would be a great pity to see this part of history scrapped.
Lorraine Harden
We have lost too much heritage whilst other cities make the most of theirs.
Anonymous
The city needs to to give this tug all the respect she’s due, for all her work in the 2nd world war. Save her.
Patricia Fry
Having played such a important part during our Country's time of strife, I believe she should be saved as part of a memorial.
